drat Drat DRat DRAT!

I miss read his schedule...it caught my eye as I was going out the door. He was already GONE from work before I left home...so he got NOTHING from me today. I'm so bummed! I will try to go by and see him tomorrow.

I have been slugging along on the QOV. Gee, I WISH I had started that peacock feather echo LARGER! I think I have at LEAST 2 bobbin changes on EACH pass! SHEESH! I AM getting braver tho...look at my first stabs at FEATHERS! I see a GLIMMER of hope!

I'm not usually drawn to panels. I had seen this on the back of a quilt magazine and fell in love with:
The beluga...(one of my kids LOVED Baby Beluga , a song by Raffi. Oh I'm showing my AGE!)
and the puffins...

This is a border only found on the side of the panel..I will piece that into the back.

around the panel, will be a pioneer braid...

and lastly this border fabric. Isn't it cute? Northcott offers a free pattern on their site. Look for Animals around the world collection. On the right side, there is a downloadable pattern. If you are wanting to try a pioneer braid, Bonnie has one, as well as Quilter's Cache

Happy Birthday!

This is wishing my oldest son C, a VERY happy birthday! I don't have many pictures of him on my computer, so I will try to snap one tonight. I'm going to try to swing by his work and take him a cupcake and a balloon! Nothing like a MOM to embarass you at WORK. After all, he IS 23 (at least he WILL be by the time I get there!)...a MAN...as in "not needful of a cake and hoopla" HA! Rumor has it his dad will take him snowboarding for his present...even tho it will be over MY birthday!

23 years ago tonight, I was 11 days overdue...my mom was about to go back to Texas after a weeks visit...and well...I guess he was READY! The doc told us to prepare for a GIRL...so what a surprise! Our older child was a girl, so now we had one of each. In the 2 1/2 yrs between kids, we didn't even change our 'boy' name. Picture to come later!

I DID promise pictures!

Here is a picture of the green nine patch I asked your opinion on...and then I found different fabrics!lolol This is just the top. I will be doing the binding in the same gecko fabric..with two inserts I think. (flange? I call them 'piping with no piping..They are kinda a signature of mine as I use them ALOT. Just not sure of the name!)

I found a black with a small metallic gold dot. Not too shiny...that is the alternate blocks. The setting triangles are black on black...I THOUGHT I had enough of the swirly one, but when I put it up on the design wall...NOOOO. AND I had forgotten I needed corner blocks. What I filled in with is kinda on the gray side, but it works..and I bought no fabric for this except one FQ (in CA) and the geckos. I will show you the inserts when I decide what colors..and the backing. (I'm a scrappy backing girl!) A friend of mine told me once, if you want one color to stand out, dont' use alot of that color. Use alot of other colors, and that one will shine thru. That was why I didn't choose the green for the alternate blocks. I wanted the green to SHINE...If I had used the green blocks, your eye would have seen more of the black. Does that make sense? Will be interesting to see what I pick for the inserts!

Thanks for stopping by...and I always appreciate your opinions and comments.

Sunday Stashbusting report...wait..its already MONDAY!

Oh so its a day late...so shoot me! lolol I sure have been CRABBY lately. Aren't you glad you dont' have to LIVE with me?? rotlf

I didn't do QUITE as well with our local craft show as I did at Road to CA. I have trouble passing the 1/2 yd for $3 table.\

~ I got one neutral zebra piece for a pioneer braid( baby quilt will be shown soon..its one of the 3 I need to have done for March), a couple of Christmas pieces...and one I'm not sure WHY I had to have it...maybe I forgot to put it DOWN! hehehehehe
~a purse pattern with batiks from SewBatik. I did see them in CA..I just LOVE all their stuff! I have been stopping in their booth since they first came to the AZ Craft show. It is nice to see them doing so well...and so....well I have to HELP them succeed, right? :::Grin:::
~I did not purchase any backing fabrics for the baby quilts...they will be scrappy and I WILL stashdive. Pictures when they are farther along.

I will be piecing the green and black nine patch you guys helped me with, so look for a picture of that one by tonight or tomorrow. Not FINISHED..but the center pieced anyway. No soccer practice tonight, so I won't be interupted by anything but
dinner.

The rain has stopped for NOW. Someone told me that there is rain in the forecast for Super Bowl Sunday. I Hope NOT. They have worked so hard to showcase our state. There is a golf tournament here that weekend too...golfers are not very fond of rain! Thanks for stopping by...

Isn't this cute?

Forestjane did this for Bonnie, who will be doing a bargello on Super Bowl Sunday. If you want to follow along, try checking out Bonnie's blog I cannot believe she is doing all that..AND getting ready to MOVE! I need to get going...she amazes me...and kicks me off here to get things DONE!

Sewing set up

This is for Tara. I tried to reply, but could find no e-mail. The frame is a B-line. I sew with a Juki TL98E with a Quilters Cruise Control (add on stitch regulator) and a Max Throat (motor that moves the take up bar forward into the quilting area...it probably doubles the quilting area my machine can do.) I will be happy to post pictures and answer any questions on this set up.

Its raining! Yippeee! it needs to rain NOW..so that when they televise the Super Bowl next week, its sunny "Chamber of Commerce' weather! back later for sewing posts...and show you what I decided for the nine patches....hehehehehe

Oh that RAGS!

I have been LULLED into a false sense of security! My cat, Rags, has not been ...lounging where she should NOT in a long long time. Look what I saw!

She is under the impression its a kitty cat HAMMOCK! I know she is elderly...but I SUPPLY her with a nice warm bed! The SCAMP!

Look at the divot she left!!! I will have to tighten up the tension AGAIN!...the tin foil is back on the frame....bad kitty!

I have finished piecing the black and green nine patches. I THOUGHT I was going to be doing that on Monday night, only to get a phone call at 6:45 on Monday (a school holiday) to tell us that my son had basketball pictures at 8:30 PM that same night. So much for my piecing schedule. Pictures soon ..I promise!

Opinions please!

I'm making a green and black nine patch on point baby quilt. (Colors were requested) I'm trying out fabs for the squares between..here is some green...altho they would be scrappy...

here they are on the Black I got for the nine patches...and setting triangles...I think the dark green is going on the back...

here is the border...

and a close up of the bright geckos!

What do you think? I will tell you what I am leaning toward tomorrow. I'm off to finish the last 5 nine patches...oh ..make that 6, gotta replace the dark one!

I got the blues...

I'm kinda blue this weekend. I know why...just not quite what to do about it. I'm cocooning in my sewing room and tying up some loose ends in the house. Hopefully , keeping my hands occupied will keep my brain from working too hard! If I'm not ready for the high road, I will just stay home....

I dont get too many magazines. Two I DO get and read from cover to cover are Readers Digest and Guidepost. I like the Quotes from famous people in RD. This one caught my eye today:

Sexiness wears thin after a while, and beauty fades, but to be married to a man who makes you laugh every day, ah, now that's a real treat.

Joanne Woodward

I DO think that if I looked at Paul Newman everyday, I could give a LITTLE on the humor end! rotlf

Nothing quilty to report...I have not wandered in the sewing room ...YET..but here I go! Maybe I will have something to show...and a clean table to brag on in a bit..

Since I hate to write a blog without a picture, I will show you my only (so far) QOV. I did take a class for this, but it was really my 1st stashbusting effort. I bought 3 1/2 yds (that is three HALF yards..not three AND a half yards!)to complete this quilt and used them all up. Everything else, including the border, binding and backing came from my stash. I have two more kitted out. I think this would make a GREAT leaders/enders...and a great place to practice my quilting efforts! See you in a bit...

Sunday stash busting report

Well, I DID buy fabric..but seeing as how I went to Road to California, it could have been MUCH worse!

~ I bought a bag of batik scraps and a batik fq at the show
~ before I left I got matching fabrics for a baby quilt panel and black w/ bright geckos. The geckos have been cut up..with the small bit left in the 2 1/2 inch strip box. The matching fabrics will be cut up tomorrow for a pioneer braid to border the panel. Any leftovers from that will be pieced into the back...
~ border cut for a batik scrappy bargello from Bonnie's THAT was from stash

so : I dont' feel too bad...as what I bought I could not find in my stash. AND the only addition will end up being the batik pieces.

Someone posted a picture of their messy cutting table. Here is mine:

So far I have found 2 stacks of folded fabric, a pile of batting scraps, my quilt journal, two file containers of magazines...AND a pile of magazines. I hope to put my big cutting mat back in the sewing room tomorrow. I have gotten so used to it being on the counter...I like all the room!

This is the messy sewing table. I was working at it most of the evening while I watched the football game and Northanger Abbey, so it looks a bit better. See you tomorrow!

Pickles

I missed one of these due to my quick day trip on Thursday...but I have been following this thread on Pickles. I'm a dog person...AND an adoptive mom!

Quilty stuff tomorrow and Monday...I'm diving into the studio TONIGHT. Who knows when I will come out! :::Grin::::

I am Anne Elliot!

Take the Quiz here!

I am SUCH a Jane Austen fan! My family can tell when I have started a new project...one of my many Austen DVD's will be running CONSTANTLY! I have been enjoying Masterpiece Theater on PBS. Last week was Persuasion (a new version to me). They run on Sundays for 6 of her works. This week is Northanger Abbey I THINK. It is the one I'm least familiar with. I just came across this quiz at Kate's blog, so I decided to take it!

I DID get to meet Judy at Road to California yesterday. My friend and I found her not too long after we arrived. She was so nice..but was busy and I didn't want to keep her from promoting her book. I just introduced myself and moved on. She has so many bloggers, I felt like a groupie! lolol

This morning there were no eggs for scrambling. I offered ds a couple different breakfast choices and he picked Eggo waffles. And THIS is what I saw:

Only THIS:

is what I left in the morning! I was only gone from the house 16 hours. From what I remember, this one was not BROKEN! Understand, I love the new toaster. It goes with the big appliances and the irridecent pieces in the granite. I am not used to having things replaced QUITE so fast! I guess DH uses the toaster the most...so he didn't want to be without it! If I had noticed it in the garage, I wouldn't have been so surprised this morning.

I'm SO ashamed!

My daughter is a HUGE Disney movie fan...ESP Finding Nemo. She loves Crush and Squirt...she loves Nemo...ALL of it. And she loves to quote it also. Well, she likes to quote movies in GENERAL! If you don't catch what she said, it was probably a QUOTE! "I'm SO ashamed" is from the French speaking crab (?) in the fish tank in Finding Nemo. When they are trying to 'dirty' up the tank water..and he is CAUGHT eating the algae off the side of the tank. He WHIPS around..and with an algae mustache, he says (with a French accent if you please!) " I am SO ashamed'!
I PROMISED pictures of the quilt show. I just HAD to post that picture of the shish kebabs the night before...and so there sat my camera ALL DAY. And it gets WORSE! I took my cell phone out of my pocket while I pumped gas on the way to the airport...and there IT stayed ALL DAY WHILE I WAS IN CALIFORNIA! It was not easy being 'phone-less':::SIGH::::

SO...here is a picture of my little stash. I really bought little fabric. A piece of batik from SewBatik> If you have never seen their line...so check them out. They have YUMMY batiks...wide batik backs and batik flannel. Nice people too! I even bought a bag of their SCRAPS(can you believe I BOUGHT SCRAPS???) They will be fun to add to my string blocks. I got some patterns...a pattern for little pincushions that look like the old fashioned spool ends (you download onto printable fabs...2st 2 downloads were free with pattern purchase), a bucket caddy (pocket 'saddle' thing for taking quilty STUFF to class), and another turtle pattern. King Tut thread from Superior Threads and a color card so I can order what I need. I got some Bottom Line from them as well for my friend..and a color card too. We can order together!

This doggie femo pin. My two favorite things: dogs and BRIGHTS! The designer/maker is
Kim Korringa.I was wearing it today in Trader Joes and met another quilter. Hehehehehe We just KNOW each other don't we??? ::::grin:::::

Oh, and my yearly addition for my t-shirt collection from
Block Party. I have shirts...panels....coffee mugs....I have a hard time PICKING cause their stuff is SO CUTE!

I have more to blog..but it will have to wait. I'm being shoved encouraged to find something ELSE to do so ds and his buddies can have the computer.

I had a great time with my friend J...she and I rarely get to spend any 'quilty' time together. We ran into old friends...and I looked for a suitable mid-arm to fit my frame. I hope THIS time I'm happy/content/FINISHED looking. I'm ready to just SEW!

Ready...set...GO!

This time tomorrow I will have: Gotten up at Oh-dark 30 (our morphing of early..and MILITARY time!),driven to the airport ...parked my car, ridden to the terminal in a van, gone thru security,,,gotten coffee and a bottle of water, knitted or read, flown from AZ to CA, gotten off the plane to meet my friend J (YIPPEEE!),driven to a restaurant for breakfast, driven to the ROAD TO CALIFORNIA QUILT SHOW....SPENT THE WHOLE DAY>>>AND LOTS OF $$$$$ :::::GRIN:::: met Judy (IF I'm lucky and find her!)< drive back to the airport...do all the security STUFF again...and make it home in time to kiss my sleeping kiddo and fend off the furry boys and DIVE into bed! WHEW! I actually think it sounds FUN! (oh and my kiddo told me I would NOT be a better mom after a break....because ....ready for the GUILT trip????.....because I was LEAVING him! He sure has me on a short leash, doesnt' he?????) My DH was so sweet...when I asked if he would be home this week...and said I wanted to go on Thursday, he asked, "don't you want to stay over night?" Wasnt't that nice?

I will leave you with the promise of pictures on FRIDAY...as I will be WAY to exhausted to post tomorrow...and a picture of last nights dinner....

Do you have a meal that is a quick, "I cannot remember where I got the recipe/idea for this food" main dish? Here is ours:

Shish Kebabs

I use stew meat (only because at my market, that meat is not tough)...drizzle with a TINY bit of vegetable oil and then sprinkle it with dry Good Seasons Italian Salad Dressing mix. Mix well so all pieces are coated with dressing mix. Grill on skewers... I grill 5 mins on each side. YUM!

See you Friday!

FRIDAY!

Joan asked about a book I used ...and blogged about. She is on no-reply, so here is my answer!

The book I referred to here is Pocket Guide to Freehanding. It is a set of 3 small spiral bound books. One book is borders, one meanderings and one ...hmmm textures and fillers (I THINK). They are a bit on the pricey side ($50 for the set if I remember right), but I use them everytime I quilt! The author is Diane Epp.

Here is a site where you can find it for sale. There is a small picture there as well. I picked them up at one of the book sellers at a quilt show.

Hope that helps!

I'm still "paisley-ing" to my hearts content! I will try this LARGER next time..as it is bobbin labor intensive!

Beth in AZ

This time tomorrow, we will have been to an 8am soccer game (an HOUR from our house) and a basketball game! I better go chill some drinks and make sure my handwork bag is packed!

Bravery!

I finally DID it! I'm such a WUSS! I think because I messed up that panto last quilt, I was nervous about this one. I watched the Pajama Quilter Reloaded...NUMEROUS times, wore out one marker, doodled and doodled. Finally yesterday I ran out of excuses. I mean the machine had been oiled, threaded, bobbins wound, frame dusted, quilt loaded...all ready to go for almost TWO weeks! I'm still not 'panto' ready, but I picked a free motion design I had doodled alot..and just TOOK OFF! LOOK!

Can you see the 'paisleys'? I am loving this motion. Think this design will get me ready for feathers?? I HOPE so!

Sorry about the shadow. After this victory, the counter weights on my machine went south, and it took me about an hour to redo it all. :::SIGH::: I am hoping to get to Road to CA for a quickie day trip next week. I WILL be looking at mid-arms that I think will fit my frame.

OK, time to get back at it! I think I will quilt a big chunk of this today. My husband and older son went skiing/snowboarding today in Eastern AZ. They won't be home till late...and the young one has basketball practice from right after school till 5...YIPPEEE! I even think I MAY be able to fit in a couple loads of laundry, taking down the Christmas door decorations...and maybe get my nails done! See ya!

Boiling point!

What is your boiling point? I hit mine yesterday AND today! I'm a normally VERY patient person. I live with 2 men who are NOT..but I am... Yesterday, my laptop was connected to the internet...BUT...I could not get online. Not on AOL OR Internet Explorer. I have had this problem for a couple of months. I mentioned it to two people who usually come to my aid. No hint was taken...so I fiddled...I reinstalled BOTH Windows and AOL. No go...This took me over 2 hours...I checked the firewall...I found the IP address for our provider to manually type in...NADA...then I cried. THAT got someones attention! We will see if I get any assistance..or I hightail it to the nearest Geek Squad outpost.

Now...today...I was marking something (to remain unnamed...kinda a Secret Santa kinda thing...) with a black Sharpie marker. I LIKE this marker...it is double ended, so I can mark JUST about anything. Do you see the problem? I HEARD the top hit the floor...while I was marking..but didn't see WHERE it went. I have almost TORN that room apart! NO TOP...I'm MAD!

So a highlighter bites the dust...I have more of those! I can ALMOST guarantee that I will find that top...as SOON as the highlighter dries up... :::SIGH:::

Sunday stashbusting report

Well...I took a small tumble..but not a BIG one (WHEW!)

This week was my Lunch Bunch (small quilt group..we are about 12 or so). When we sew/pot luck at the quilt shop ...my FAVORITE quilt shop, its my most challenging stashbusting temptation.

~ still working on neutral Matchstick. Completed one whole row, another one pinned and ready to go
~tipped bricks border for HAD quilt : leaders enders...still moving along
~no other stash used
~bought one panel for baby quilt, a couple FQ for its pioneer braid border. did not purchase accompanying stripe border (mostly because they didn't HAVE it). I was tempted by the whole kit. But it didn't have the pioneer border I had seen in the ad by Northcott, so it could have been MUCH worse! (OK...I told you...I was going to leave it out..but decided it was not in the spirit of stashbusting. Do I get chocolate for coming clean???!?)

I recieved my Pajama Quilter Reloaded DVD and have been doodling away. I got some low odor markers yesterday (MUCH prettier colors too,I might add!). I think I found a design I can DO...and LIVE with on the Quilt of Valor. I will post a picture later..IF I get brave and take thread to fabric.

Lunch Bunch

Here is the finished Turkey Lasagna on its way to Lunch Bunch! My son was not happy that he had to wait till dinner to get his share. It smelled GOOD in here this morning!

I pieced a whole row on the neutral/blue Matchstick Marimba and cut out another row to use as a Leaders/Enders. I'll be back tomorrow with more to report...I'm off to find a new dry erase marker. I got my Pajama Quilter Reloaded DVD yesterday and I wore out the marker I was using! Its fun..now I just have to get BRAVE! See you tomorrow...

Turkey Lasagna

I promised another leftover recipe...I made this today, to cook for tomorrow's Lunch Bunch. We do a pot luck/sew in once a month. I'm the 'hostess' this month..but all that means is that I bring the main dish. I almost brougth a bucket of KFC chicken..but I will do that in the summer when it is as hot as the sun out and there is NO cooking going on in my kitchen! Here is the recipe with pictures. I will post the whole thing at the end as well in case you want to copy/paste it to print it out.

Mix together in a large bowl:
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of chicken soup
I cup sour cream
1 cup parmesan cheese, grated
4 cups diced cooked turkey
1/4 chopped pimento, drained well
1 cup coarsley chopped black olives
(I use sliced ones...your preference)
1 cup finely chopped onions
1/2 tsp garlic salt

Cook 12 lasagna noodle. Drain well...

Now you just layer as a usual lasagna. Start with the mixture, then grated cheese (I like Co-jack the best) One recipe says 5 cups...one says 2 cups! SOMEBODY likes cheese! I just grated up an 8 oz block..used what I needed and saved the rest for snacks.
Here it is completed. I will refrigerate this till tomorrow...and bake them to take.
I know this looks small..I did mine this time in 8X8 pans. I think they will be easier to take. Also if I need to reheat them, the microwave in the quilt shop is small. These should fit in there just right. I usually use a 9X13.
Bake for 40-50 mins (add 15 mins if refridgerated.) or until cheese is melted. Let stand 10 mins before serving.

Don't forget to call your 'Hoover' to make sure you have not dropped anything! I didn't think I was that messy of a cook until my ds snapped this picture! Sweet funny dog! Note the toy in waiting also..JUST in case!

Here is the recipe just as printed:

Turkey Lasagna

12 lasagna noodles
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 c. dairy sour cream
1c grated parmesan cheese
4 c. diced cooked turkey
1/4 c. chopped pimento
1 c. coarsely
chopped black olives
1 c. finely chopped onion
1/2 tsp. garlic salt
5 c. shredded colby, American or co-jack cheese

Cook noodles according to package directions, drain.

Combine remaining ingredinents except 5 c. of cheese. Spread 1/4 of
turkey mixture over bottom of 13X9 baking dish. Alternate 3 layers of
noodles, turkey mixture, and cheese, ending with cheese. Bake at 350
degrees for 40-50 minutes. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Note: May be made ahead and refrigerated until ready to bake. Add 15
minutes to baking time.

Confession!

AlRIGHT! If you insist..I didn't quilt anything yesterday. I'm so chicken! Somehow I always found SOMETHING else to keep my hands busy. Maybe tonight while I listen to the Fiesta Bowl on TV. I SHOULD enjoy it..I had to wade thru Oklahoma fans streaming in on my way home from the grocery store! DH had to rent a truck to get our old bed over to our son's house. In the process I got some stuff cleared out..seems he will be swinging by Good Will on the way back to donate the OLD old bed leaving Ds's house.

SOMEONE has been somewhat of a PEST lately...sitting on EVERYTHING..and leaving trail of kitty hairs...I will not name any names..but she knows who she is! Too bad this is the bed that just left! I even had to put a piece of tin foil on my cutting table. That pile of batting scraps was just too tempting, and I had to WASH them!

Bloggers are the BEST!

Jane was kind enough to take the time to send me the link to the site I was looking for. Look here for a neat site. You can plug in the word you want, and it gives you actual pictures of those letters. I wanted to use it for my header, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get them on my blog! This week I learned how to cross out words. Just one task at a time!
Maybe next week, I will learn how to add those letters!

Slowly....s...l..o..w..l..y.....

Well, ONE dog is getting the idea!

He still will not lay on it when its in the wicker bed...
But THIS one is still very suspicious! He will not even sit next to it! Silly dog! We have had him 6 yrs today...and I dont' think he will ever fully trust me. Such is the life of a rescue! He does wag his tail ALOT...even when there is no one around to see him!

OK ...I"M UP!

I was crabby last night! DS wanted to stay up ALL night playing Wii...and I would have let him. BUT, he wanted ME to stay up with him too! NOT! I never was much for all nighters. 11:30 found me cutting a large styrofoam ball with my electric knife (school project-over the HOLIDAYS!...cost me $40 for all the supplies! He needed 7 different size balls...and most of them came in 6 packs!) We didn't climb into bed till around 1:30. I watched part of a Fred Astaire movie as I started to doze off. They must have had a marathon because I had seen a whole movie earlier in the evening. He must have liked the cast...there were many of the same faces..not just Ginger Rogers.

OK, time for some opinions! Here is the yellow and blue quilt for Brittany (listed on the side bar as what I'm piecing...) I need help with the border. There is really no rush, as I am going to QUILT ON THE FRAME TODAY! No time like the present...and I can waste it if I don't jump in with BOTH FEET. (thats my story and I'm sticking to it!)

These are the fabrics I have to leftovers work with:

I'm thinking since this is pretty busy...I will just stick to an easy border. I had thought to put a small border..then a pieced border of small squares of this selection...and then the dark floral. I have the most of that...about 4 yds I think. I need nothing for a backing as I got a wide one on sale.

choice 1 for insert....matches the flowers in the border best...

choice 2 for insert...no yellow in the border fab..but I think it picks up the yellow squares better. I'm open to suggestions!

now I'm off to get dressed (I know...too much information!) and get QUILTING!
