short tails

This is SO easy! I hope you can get some mileage out it!

Here is the small tail. It is too small to thread on a needle and then be able to get the needle into the hole the thread makes.

Take a contrasting piece of thread and thread it into a loop on a needle.

Insert the needle in the hole where the small tail sticks out of the fabric.

Put the small tail thru the loop.

Tug on the loop. The loop will bury the thread. Just pull the loop all way out. It has done its work! Trim the small thread. VOILA! All done...

burying threads

When I was working on my last group quilt, I had a TON of starts and stops. I tried to lock my threads as much as possible (that means to take a few little stitches at the start and end of quilting so you 'lock' those stitches), but I still had alot of threads I was not comfy trimming. I also had some small threads to bury. THOSE can be a pain, but I found a quick easy way to bury those too. So here is a small tutorial on burying long AND short threads.

Here is a long tail. Tug on the thread where it enters the fabric. There should
be a small hole.

Insert your needle in that hole...bring your needle out about an inch or so away. If you have gone RIGHT in that hole, you should not be able to see any of the thread where your needle entered. trim thread. Tomorrow I will post the short thread tip.

Day One

I FINALLY found a pool I could swim laps in. I checked the times and prices online...and OFF I went. As luck would have it, half way thru my laps ( I only did FIVE..thats there and back) they had a practice drill...AND as I was leaving all the summer camp kids arrived. I will try to go back tomorrow. I have a doc's appt at 10, so I should be ready and at the door by 12:30 to swim. I hope I"m not too stiff in the am!

design element

I am here..I have just been busy! I quilted my 1st customer quilt last weekend and forgot to take a picture! I will get the hang of that! I think the hardest part for me will be deciding WHAT to quilt. Some quilts will be easier than others I suppose. One of my favorite blogs is written by Anita She was gracious to tell me how she saves her quilt designs for later use. I tried it today and it works GREAT! Thanks Anita! Here is my 2nd customer quilt.

I have one design element picked out. I will do this on the nine patch border and I think every other row. Any suggestions on the alternating rows? I think if I do this every row , it will be too busy... I'm going to piece a baby quilt tonight, so I won't work on this till tomorrow! I'm ready for suggestions!

Lunch Bunch Day!

I have to tell you..that in the house all day with a 13 yr old! By the time our monthly Lunch Bunch pot luck rolls around...I'm SO READY! lolol We meet in my fav quilt shop (see the latest
Quilt Sampler and Click on Quiltz to see pictures!)in the classroom. Guess who peeked in today? Patrick Lose! He was SO nice and chatted with us and oohed and aahed over some of our show and tell. We got to see some of his new patterns and hear about his new club. We TRIED to feed him and his friend Gary, but they would not bite! (pun intended! HA!) I got so jazzed I had a hard time packing up to go home...and I was the last one out of the classroom! I usually have to jet off to pick someone up at school.

I snagged this collection for a baby quilt. The couple has picked a beach theme for their nursery. It will be a surprise as to whether it is a boy or a girl. I tried to stay neutral.

I'm doing this quilt

from this book:
I just LOVE Terry Atkinson. Her brain must work the same way mine does!

I'm going to have a hard time staying awake tonight to see the whole ball game. I was up early and as soon as my feet hit the ground I was OFF! See you tomorrow!

last time

I'm trying out I'm posting these pictures with no idea of how to separate them and label them like I like. These SHOULD be a picture of US Cellular Field...and one of my son hoping to snag a practice ball or an autograph. I seem to have a similar picture from each of the 3 fields we visited this summer. I'm off to wash a quilt, work on the one on my frame, and hit the grocery store. Gee my food bill goes WAAAY up in the summer with a 13 yr old BOY in the house 24/7! I need to find him some ACTIVITIES!

update: well THAT didn't work! I guess I will have to upload these the old fashioned way.
