WOW! What a day!

#1 Its EASTER! The best day in the Christian calendar. I enjoyed a wonderful service this morning. Calvary was PACKED OUT! I got to view Good Friday service on line from...Chicago...see #2!

#2 Sports Guy and I flew to Chicago on Thursday. He participated in a one day soccer camp-mostly to be seen by a college coach. Met the coach, SG spent the night in the dorm with one of the students, had a short walking tour of the campus on Sat am. He was offered a roster spot on the men's soccer team! He had already been accepted academically: Wheaton College. There are a few other schools in the running...and its HIS decision.

#3 Our DD's birthday! So nice it fell on Easter! I will not get to celebrate with her till the end of May...but that is for another post...Happy Birthday ChicPilot!!

and #4...drum roll please!! LAST but on the top of MY list today! Look what I was presented with!?
Looks like I am going to be a MIMI!
WAAAA HOOOOOO!
Due Date; mid Dec

I am thinking that covers their Christmas present to us! HA!

Hope you had a
Blessed Easter...

off the frame...but WAIT!

I finished this baby quilt on Tuesday...all the way to the binding!

The squared off flower is from a tutorial at

I did a modified flower in the border to continue the flower motif.
You can see it better below from the back.

The backing is a pale pink Minkee. The stitches just melt into the softness
leaving a line that looks embossed. Love it!
After I got it off, I discoverd I had MISSED a corner...so I have to
put it back on when I am done with what is on there...
and quilt that corner! Always something!

This is a picture of the top before last borders and quilting.
I will get a picture of the whole quilt before it is gifted.
Thanks for looking!

Grand Canyon or bust!

When Sports Guy was a sophomore, we hosted an exchange student from Japan for a semester. They both had the same math class and were teammates on the varsity soccer team. Well, after pass his college entrance exam, he was allowed to come for a visit! He didn't get a chance to visit the Grand Canyon during his stay (he was BUSY! marching, jazz and concert band, varsity soccer and JV baseball. It was a quick year!), so we headed off on Tuesday to see the 'big hole in the ground" Its been many years since I had been there. Only a 3 1/2 hour drive, north thru Flagstaff, makes it an easy day. We planned to see the sunset. It did not disappoint!

I think there will be a Grand Canyon quilt sometime in my future. The colors are amazing and always changing.
We enjoyed Mexican food for dinner...
And lots of pictures to prove we were there!
We even got a close up of a condor who flew about 10 feet below us
at a lookout point. I was not fast enough to take a picture.
DRAT...

Look what we woke up to! BRRRRR!
We decided NOT to join the Ranger talk
about fossils in the canyon!
The rest of the day was cool, but not cold...
and NOT crowded.
Clear and lovely! Home by 5:30 on Wed.

procrastination

What do you do when  you have a task that you are dreading...and when you DO start it (with the timer set for 15 mins. You know the FlyLady says you can do ANYTHING for 15 mins..so I am going to get started),  you  are finished before the timer goes off?

::::crickets:::::

I had a baby quilt with a Minkee back. I had done the SID in the inner border. When I got ALL
the way around that border, there was a nice BIG generous TUCK in the Minkee. ::: S I G H::::
So, I took out 2 sides..and there is  still too much on one side...Then it HIT me. I loaded the Minkee with the selvedges on the SIDES. It should have been loaded on the rollers. All I had to do was take out the 2 remaining sides of SID. I took my smallest rotary cutter and skinned between the top and batting. When I was finished..there was 5 mins and 48 seconds left on my timer.  Tomorrow my 15 mins will be to take it off and reload. Want to take bets on how long it will take me?

Design wall Monday

Boxes and Bows
by
Pattern from Quiltmaker Nov/Dec 2011

This got put up on the design wall in the sewing room.
It had been a UFO since about 3 weeks after I
recieved the Quiltmaker it was featured in!
I got bogged down on the little spool blocks and put it away
with only 10 left to make! I could not
decide what colors. It will be the 1st Christmas quilt on the pile.
Each of my 3 kiddos will get a Christmas quilt this year
...and they will get to pick what they want.
Even if I have to make another one!

Celtic Solistice is still on the design wall in the guest room.
I think it will stay there for a bit. I am enjoying the Boxes and Bows!
I counted the pieces on CS. There are 2068...and that does not count the borders!
Time for a change of scenery! I am also working on borders for
Blueberries in the Park.

Thanks for visiting!
For more Design Wall Monday, be sure to head over to Judy's
to check out more!

its done!

I put the last rows together last night!
I have some of the units made that Bonnie had planned for the border.
I have decided I am DONE making them, so will just use what I have
and make do!

Wanna guess borders? Just a word in advance. Thru the magic of EQ7, I have
imported my blocks as images and then done some planning for borders.
I got...um...LAZY and didnt' turn all the arrow blocks in the border.
Mine will all be going in one direction around the quilt,
but will not make it all the way around. I will put them on opposite
corners and fill it in the dark blue. Ya gotta use
your imagination a bit!
So, do you think I will use the white inner border>?

the green one?

or the yellow one?

I am putting borders on Blueberries in the park and stash diving
for borders for this. If I don't come up for air at dinner,
call my DH!

I'm still here!

I am still slogging thru my Celtic Solstice blocks. I THINK I only have THREE more 54-40 or Fight blocks. I am going to power thru those today...oh and keep putting blocks together on my Blueberries in the Park. For some reason, I am having trouble keeping my mind on the right way to press seams. I feel a bit OCD about the whole thing! I need that design wall for my Celtic Solstice!

I have a baby quilt loaded on the frame with a Minkee backing...I tried SID around the 1st border. Can you say HUGE TUCK?? In the back. I am frogging one side and then I think I will see if I loaded the selvedges on the leaders. If I didn't, I think a reloading is in order. A small price of time to be HAPPY with what I quilted! No thread shredding at the moment! HALLELUIA!

Hoping to have a picture or two on my next post.

OH! The class I took with Judy Madsen of GreenFairyQuilts fame was a blast! I made her blog page!
She was so much fun. I loved the EQ7 classes too. I have a 3rd class on my bucket list next time I see MaryEllen Kranz as the instructor. She went slow to start...and I learned ALOT that I will use. She solved a design dilemma with a quilt that needs to go up a bed size. WHEW! I think I will take my laptop next time I travel and see if I can get that puppy ready to sew! I cannot get AOL to bring up her website, so I will post it another time. GRRR..I HATE that. I KNOW the spelling is right..and I KNOW I went to that site last week...the link comes up when you use a search engine..but COX says NO WAY NO HOW. I think I better go do some laundry to get rid of my irritation!

Glad THATS over!

They are scruffy, DIRTY! (the camera really points things out doesn't it!LOL)
they REALLY are special shoes ..they have springs in the heel and toe for
cushioning - LOVE THEM...
But Saturday was the 1st day since Tuesday that I put them ON.
I even got DRESSED!
I think I had the flu...
FREEZING, but no fever
coughing but never any head congestion or much of a runny nose,
SORE RIBS-thought they were from coughing, but the 3rd day
NADA..

oh..and not a SMIDGE of energy.
I even entertained thoughts of
"why would ANYONE care about quilting?"
Maybe I was hallucinating!!??

Anyway..THOSE thoughts have been trashed!
I still have the cough and the energy is returning.
Trying to get ready for a busy week so conserving energy where I can
Menu planning will be a MUST
and I have a couple of loads of laundry planned today to prepare.
Off to coffee now, but I will be back later to show you
how much I have done on my Celtic Solstice.

drat Drat DRAT!

I worked hard on my house today. I did a couple loads of laundry, folded, put away.
Dusted/vacuumed/cleaned off
bedside tables in our bedroom.
I even planned dinner ahead of time so we could eat before
Sports Guys soccer game.

This looks like a harmless
household oven..but NO!
Lurking inside is....

An EXPLODED potato!
can you see it way in the back on the top left?
Darn little potato!
I even poked it with a fork NUMEROUS times.
Guess tomorrow holds
a class in how to clean out a potato
that has exploded.
Bet it will be dried on and STUCK

because I am NOT cleaning it
tonight.

Design Wall Monday 1/13/14

I have finally broken down and started piecing the blocks for Celtic Solstice. I am not finished with the green and orange 4 patches..I think I still need some of the 60 degree white/blue units for the 54-40 or Fight blocks..and I KNOW I have not done one of that unit in orange for the border. HOWEVER....I'm kinda sick of units and I want to piece BLOCKS. :::sheepish grin::: I will continue on those units piecemeal and as leaders and enders. I saw someone on the Monday Link up at Quiltville's quips and snips, that they had pieced the block with the chevron units differently. I am SUCH a star lover, that I decided to do some of each. Here are the two ways I will be using.

The only difference in these blocks is the chevron units are turned pointed out
on the 'square' blocks and turned in on the stars.
There will be 16 of the top block
and 9 of the star. The placement of the outer unit stays the same in both blocks
and that will keep the circular optical illusion
in tact.

I am also piecing Blueberries in the Park  blocks together.
That quilt is at the bottom of that post.

scrappy blue saturday or "a whole day in the studio'!

SO nice..no place to go. The house is warm...the dogs are happy. I only made breakfast and dinner. And I spent 95% of my day in the studio! LOVELY!

I am participating in a Rainbow Scrap Challenge...so stash diving I went! I decided to try the Disappearing Pinwheel from Missouri Star Quilt Company. The Link is to You Tube. There are 2 tutorials on this ...both are made the same way, but colors turned to make a different block. I used the 1st one:

This fabric used to be a shower curtain I made for the guest room. That room now houses
Sports Guy..and ..well... he was not enamored with
a BEACH theme! I had fun making this block..so I made two!
While I was organinzing a bit, I came across three strippy blocks ready for their
snowball corners. I 'snowballed' them..and one counts for this month as its BLUE!
I am happy to report that I have enough of these to make a quilt! I guess I was doing a Rainbow Scrap quilt last year and didn't even know it...
I will start piecing that as soon as I have pieced THIS:
into a top.
Blueberries in the Park has all its blocks made as of today.
I am happy with its layout and will start putting the blocks together tonight.
I get a bit of exercise as the blocks are on a design wall in a different room
than my sewing machine. I have to walk back and forth to get the blocks!
I have some extra blueberry strips so I will put on my thinking cap about a border.
I need to border this pretty quickly as all the edges are bias.
Thanks for visiting!

Messy sewing room

I know my ROOM is not better, but I have made a decision! (I cannot TELL you how long it takes me sometimes to 'figure' things out...like how to organize a stash :::pending!:::, where to store something I want to keep- and want to remember WHERE it is) Well..that ever growing pile of batting scraps? I am bagging it up to use a packing material. We are just about ready to do a flooring update in our living room/dining room/main hallway/laundry room (ACK!)/and bedroom hallway. Its a combo a 22 yr old carpet, shifting (just a tiny bit, but enough to crack tiles!) foundation, and ...well...a dog that had kidney problems. We don't speak unkindly of him as he has left us for the Rainbow Bridge, but he DID bless that big room. SIGH Anyway...I have been having a bit of a DISCUSSION with myself about this batting. Then last night right before I dropped off to sleep...I GOT It...I am going to use that batting to pack all the dishes and glassware before we empty that room. Starting today....I am going to go get some boxes and do a couple a day. Hoping I can purge some things as I go. EmPHAsis on the HOPING!

Here is what I just gleaned in about 5 mins from the sewing room...
That does not count what is LURKING in the Jane's room..
can you see it peeking out in the middle?
and off to the right?
Its VERY sneaky!

When I am finished with them I will piece them into lap/baby quilt sizes, cut for the
clothesline bags (you can use strips of batting in place of the clothesline),
and make these reuseable swiffer covers. The more you use these, the better they get!

(Unfortunately for me, this swiffer handle broke, so I cannot get it into
the slots on the swiffer...its just for pictures!)

DON'T look in my sewing room!

What do you MEAN Being Creative is NOT ENOUGH? You Expect Me to be NEAT TOO!?? :cD

Do you think Bonnie has been peeking in my sewing room?? Its a WRECK!
I thought I would make SO much headway on New Years Day...

NOT!

Lol Funny thing about families...they think they need to eat

DAILY

THREE TIMES A DAY

EVEN ON NEW YEARS DAY

And even if they slept and  you stayed up with a nervous dog
who hates fireworks

View from my sewing table.
Do you think he knows there is VERY little room down there?
Like a WHOLE box of unwashed fabric?

and NO, you are NOT allowed on the
furniture! See how his ears are down? I call those
'Yoda' ears. He knows he is doing something he is not supposed to do.
He wont' look at me either! He was SO abused when we got him.
They told us he was a year old and he just celebrated his
12th year with us...
Happy 13th Birthday Rookie!
(now how come after ALL these years,  you still look at me
like you KNOW I am going to beat you?!
I have not hit you in 12 yrs...but no matter.
I am still paying the price for whomever hurt you in that 1st yr.
GRRRR)

OH!
Sorry...you came over to see my Design Wall
and you got to see the birthday boy!
Here is the design wall...I just slapped them up there,
so I could get credit for making them. They are not going to stay.
I dont' have enough to do a whole quilt yet.
Many MANY projects to do before these lovelies will
be ready for the flimsy stage.

The package is a free Moda pattern.
I am not sure when it came out because I cannot find it on the Moda Bake Shop blog
or anyplace else under Moda's name.
I found it at Red Rooster Quilts.
Click on 'store' then 'free patterns'
(PS Kindly ignore the $1 posted charge. That  is only if you
want THEM to print it out and mail it to you)
this quilt is called
All Wrapped Up.
Its about halfway down the 1st page.
Be warned! I sent my friend, Julie NoBlog over there to see it..
she was lost in the maze of free patterns for HOURS!~\
(the bow is an upside down flying goose)

These 3 blocks are pieced..but all are missing the letter that goes with the block.
Top row : A for Army star block
F for Flying geese
(I bet you GOT that one! I did too!)
and G for Grandmothers Choice.

They are Jan's blocks for The Quilt Show's
2014 BOM
I may be traveling later in the month, so I
decided to do these so I feel ahead.
(even tho I have not appliqued the letters yet)
I may or may not complete these in Jan.
I am still working on Celtic Solstice over at
My sturdy, never gives me a SPECK of trouble
Bernina 150 started giving me...well...
TROUBLE.
Poor thing had not been serviced in a HECK of a long time, so
she is getting a spa treatment.
I am only working on units that I sew on the line.
I cannot change machines midstream.
